AB - Road conditions in Indonesia, particularly on rural areas in East Kalimantan is uncontroled. Hence, this condition slowing down the economical growth. Road deformation is caused by soil bearing capacity which could not hold the traffic load on it. Stiffening is needed towards soil bearing capacity by using short pile. This research analyzed half space stiffening by using short pile with finite element method. Half space is repesentation of area around the short pile. Half space striffening analization was done by making a software. We verified the software using two methods. Boussinesq Solution verified the deformation and stress in half space medium due to axial load and Amrinsyah solution verified deformation and stress in half space medium due to axial load with the stiffening by short piles . Stiffening using short pile give effect to deformation on half space. Deformation the half space with stiffening by short pile is smaller than the deformation of the half space without short pile. finite element method can be developed to solve not only linier as well as nonlinier problems, whilst Boussinesq and Amrinsyah Solution just outdo the linear problem.
