IAIN Tulungagung resmi naik status dan berganti nama menjadi UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung berdasarkan Peraturan Presiden Republik Indonesia Nomor 40 Tahun 2021 tanggal 11 Mei 2021. UIN Tulungagung diberi nama Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah yang merupakan nama asli dari Sunan Ampel.
