The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (also called DFAT) is a department of the Government of Australia charged with the responsibility of advancing the interests of Australia and its citizens internationally. It manages the government's foreign relations and trade policies.
DFAT also administers Australia's Aid Program, Australian Aid. The purpose of the aid program is to promote Australia’s national interests by contributing to sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction. We will pursue this purpose by focusing on two development outcomes: supporting private sector development and strengthening human development. The Australian Aid logo is often used to publicly acknowledge DFAT's development programmes, which are funded by Australian taxpayers.
