Fluorescent lamp will shine perfectly if it applied on power supply matching with its rating for example 220 V, 50 Hz. Generally in rural (Indonesia) have poor regulation of power supply. Due to poor regulation in rural cause it hardly shines. Compare with incandescent lamp, fluorescent lamp have superiority. The present of electromagnetic ballast transformer at fluorescent lamp have effect poor power factor and increase power loss. The function of ballast transformer only just on starting time. Replacing ballast transformer with switching process on fluorescent lamp result both improving power factor and it can shine on poor power regulation of power supply. Increasing switching frequency result small inductor size. Inductor, using in switching frequency, makes high transient voltage so that its shines. Replacing ballast transformer by 800 Hz switching frequency result power factor 0,86 leading. If fluorescent lamp use ballast transformer, the power factor will be down until 0,4 lagging. If voltage of power supply 160 volt, fluorescent lamp by ballast transformer can not shine but by switching process (more 800 Hz) it shines perfectly.
