Forest Ownership and Management in Indonesia: Reducing Deforestation by Strengthening Communal Property Rights

Abstrak

Rampant deforestation is a critical challenge for Indonesia. By analysing existing legal and governance frameworks as well as policy decisions, this paper recommends to reform forest ownership and management in Indonesia. This paper refers to Indonesian and international experiences in regards to property rights and how secure land tenures have helped local communities to practice sustainable forest management while improving their livelihoods.
