## Konsep

1. Area Type
to determine whether a certain village is either rural or urban, it is used a composite indicator based on the values of three variables, i.e., population density, percentage of agricultural households and access of newtemplate facilities.

The list of variables and the explanation on how to calculate the source of the composite indicator are available in newtemplateation of Welfare Statistics 2005 Profile.

2. Census Block
A census block is an area enumeration of which is generally assigned to one enumerator of BPS common surveys. A census block has to fulfil the following criteria :

• each village is divided into several census blocks.
• each census block should be identifiable by its natural or manmade boundaries, especially small unit boundaries such RT, RW, etc.
• One census block is in a geographical area.

3. Household and Member of Household
Household consists of two types, i.e., ordinary household and special households

1. The ordinary household
is a perosn or a group of persons living in a (physical/census) building or a part of it and usually sharing the same pot. Sharing the same pot means that everyday's common needs of the group are managed together as one unit. Examples of ordinary household are :
• a man or woman who lives with his or her spouse and children
• a person who rents a room or a part of census building and manage his or her own meals
• a family who lives in two separate buildings, but shared the same pot, if both buildings are in the same segment
• a boarding house with not more than 10 boarders
• the household of the manager of a boarding, the institution when it is separated from institution, he or she manages, e.g., that of a house hall, dormitory, hospital, prison, orphanage, and the like.
• each of a group of persons who rents a room or part of a census building together, but manages his or her meal individually.
2. Special household
people living in orphanage, house hall, dormitory, hostel, prison, military barracks, and the like. However, a military personnel who lived with his or her family in a barrack but manage his or her own meals separate from that of the barracks is not included; people living in boarding houses where the number of boarders is not less than 10 persons. Special household is excluded from the survey.

Household members
include each people who form a household no matter whether he or she is present or temporarily absent at the date of enumeration. However, a household member who is on journey for six months or longer, or less than six months but intended to move away for more than six months or longer, is not regarded as household member. On the other hand, a person who has stayed for six months or longer, or has stayed for less than six months but intended to stay, is regarded as the member of the household.

4. Average per Capita Monthly Expenditure
Average per capita monthly expenditure of a household is obtained by dividing the number of household members into total consumption expenses of the household.
Household consumption, distinguished between food and non-food, is limited to goods and services used for household purposes, omitting those purchased for business or to be given away, despite their source or origin.
The reference period for food consumption is one week, and for non-food consumption is one year before enumeration. Both food and non-food consumption are tabulated monthly for which purpose conversion may be required. Quantity consumed, oe expenditure from there per capita per month is obtained by dividing total consumption (or expenditure) of all households over total number of persons corresponding to the area of aggregation.

## Metodologi

1. Coverage
Susenas is a household sample survey, its sample is selected so as to represent all parts of the country. With 10,512 households in the sample the survey is capable of obtaining national level estimates and since urban and rural samples are drawn independently, independent estimates for urban and rural, respectively, are also obtainable.

2. Sampling Frame
The sampling frame used for the 2005 Susenas consumption/expenditure panel is selected census block of the 2005 Susenas consumption/expenditure module.A systematic random sampling is applied to select 657 of census block from the sampling frame, then all selected households in the selected census blocks are the selected households of the 2005 consumption/expenditure panel.

3. Data Collecting Method
Every household sample is to be visited by an enumerator who responsibility for interviewing respondents. It is expected that the respondents would be the head of households' sample. They are assumed persons who know the household's affairs best is usually interviewed.
The survey reference period is one week before enumeration date for food consumption. For non-food consumption the reference periods are either one month, one year or both. The survey enumerators, i.e., statistical officers stationed in subdistrict level are each equipped with data collection instruments such as preprinted questionnaires and field operation manuals. Before they take to the field, the enumerators are trained regarding the details of how to fill the questionnaires and taught about the exact meaning of the definition of the variables incorporated in the survey. By doing so biased results due to non-sampling errors are expected to decrease.

4. Data processing
Computer processes the data started from checking completeness, editing for their content's sensibility and consistency. The output of that validation stage, termed the clean data set, was to undergo yet another test, i.e., calorie consumption acceptability. Here the food consumption of each household was converted to obtain its calorie equivalent and if its dailyper capita calories or more than 4500 calories the records for the household are excluded from the file used for tabulation.
