: The aims of this research is to improve students speaking skills. The object of this research is the speaking learning of the seven grade A of SMP Negeri 5 Surakarta. The application of Mind Mapping method are to improve the quality of learning process and result of speaking learning. This research shaped Classroom Action Research. Techniques of data collection is done by observation, interviews, tests and document analysis. The research process is performed in three cycles. Every cycle consists of four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The subject of this research was the A class of seven grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Surakarta, the total students is 32 and teachers as collaborators. Data collection technique are observation, interview, questionnaire, test and document analysis. The validity of the data used triangulation techniques and review the informant. Data analysis used comparative analysis techniques and technical descriptions of critical analysis. The research concludes that there is improvement of the students speaking skills by application of Mind Mapping method. The improvement of the students liveliness and motivated in speaking learning process indicates that there is improvement of learning process quality. The improvement is also shown by the increasing percentage of students speaking skills.
