: The aims of this research are to improve: (1) the activeness of learning process; and (2) the results of learning skills to write poetry using the Student Teams Acievement Divisions (STAD) in class VIII H grade of SMP Negeri 8Surakarta. This research is a classroom action research. The Implementation of the method STAD can improve the activeness of learning process on poetry writing skills that be indicatored by teachersand students performance. The performance of the original teacher (prasiklus) get scored 43,75, in the first cycle increased to 56.77 and cycles II increased by 81.25, while the performance of students there was an increase in activity of students in the following study on writting poetry skills. At the time of prasiklus activity of students as much as 25%, in the first cycle increased to 43.7% and the second cycle increased by 56.2%. Besides the quality of the process, the application method Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) is also able to improve the quality of students' writing poetry skills. It is seen from the thoroughness of student learning outcomes, when prasiklus students who completed KKM amounted to 43.7% (14 students), the first cycle increased 62.5% (20 students) and the second cycle increased by 81.2% (26 students).
