Sejak didirikan pada 2001, SMERU merupakan lembaga terdepan dalam melakukan kajian di bidang kemiskinan dan ketimpangan. Kami melakukan kajian yang menggunakan metode kualitatif, kuantitatif, dan kombinasi terhadap isu-isu sosial-ekonomi yang memengaruhi masyarakat yang paling miskin dan rentan di Indonesia. SMERU juga berperan aktif dalam kegiatan penelitian yang menyoroti dampak program dan kebijakan pemerintah serta menerbitkan dan melaporkan temuan penelitian kami. Kerja SMERU berfokus pada bidang-bidang penelitian sosial-ekonomi yang sangat penting bagi isu-isu pembangunan dewasa ini.
