Antioksidan dari Daun Sirih Merah (Piper Crocatum)

Research on the antioxidant activity testing has been done using red betel (Piper crocatum) leafs in Palu, Central Sulawesi. This research was conducted to determine the IC50 value and antioxidant activity of red betel leafs extracts which has the ability as a natural antioxidant. This research was conducted with an experimental method using an extraction maceration technique, DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-pikrilhidrazil) as free radicals, vitamin C as a positive control, UV-Vis spectrophotometer as an antioxidant test equipment with red betel leafs extracts as samples. Samples of red betel leaves were used as much as 30 grams, and the solvent were absolute ethanol. Various concentrations of the red betel leafs extracts were 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 60 ppm, and 80 ppm. Testing of antioxidant activity was done by using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer and IC50. The results showed that the IC50 value of the red betel leafs (Piper crocatum) extracts was 47.45 ppm. The red betel leafs extract was categorized into a very powerful antioxidant based on IC50 value, where the optimum percentage of red betel leaf extract activity in inhibiting free radical was 81.82%.

Kandungan Merkuri (Hg) dalam Air Laut, Sedimen, dan Jaringan Ikan Belanak (Liza Melinoptera) di Perairan Teluk Palu

Mercury (Hg) is one type of a dangerous heavy metals. As one of contaminants, mercury enter the aquatic ecosystem through atmospheric decomposition or sourced from the industrial waste externalisation and bilogical and chemical converted in methyl mercury. This research aims to find out and determine the mercury concentrate which contained in sea water, sediment and belanak (Liza melinoptera) network in Palu bay water. The analysis of mercuri content on the tested sample using Automatic Mercury Analyzer. The working principle of the device is gold amalgamation method by heating and separation. The research result showed that the mercury content in belanak network is 0.143 - 0.188 ppm, sediment is 2.453 - 2.800 ppm and the sea water is 0.030 – 0.040 ppm. Based on the decision of the state minister of environmental regarding the guidelines for determination of Hg standard quality for sea water is 0.002 ppm and 0.001 ppm for marine biota. It shows that the Palu bay water condition has been polluted and the belanak is not worth to be consumed.

Uji Efektivitas Ekstrak Kulit Langsat (Lansium Domesticum) Sebagai Anti Nyamuk Elektrik Terhadap Nyamuk Aedes Aegypti (a Test Onthe Effectiveness of Lansium Peel Extract (Lansium Domesticum) as Mosquito Electric Repellent Against Aedes Aegypti Mosquitoes)

The research concerning a test on the effectiveness of lansium peel extract (lansium domesticum) as a mosquito electric repellent against AedesAegypti mosquitoes has been done. This research aimed to know the effectiveness of lansium peelextractas anelectricmosquito repellent. The method used was laboratory experiments. The lansium peel extract obtained from the maceration method added with absolute methanol was evaporated to produce thick lansium peel extract. Then, the extract was diluted to the concentration of 35, 30, 25, 20, and 15%. The research data obtained was the death of aedes aegypti which then was analyzed by statistical varian analysis test (ANOVA) with the95% confidence level. It was followed by Duncan test to determine the most effective concentration. The result showed that the most effective concentration as electrical mosquitoes repellent was 25%.
