Reformation Era in Indonesia bears new Islamic spirituality and politics in various forms. One of them is the rise of Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI), as a branch of Hizbut Tahrir (HT) in the Middle East. The proponents claim that HTI is an ideological political party which is based on Islamic doctrines and its dakwa is based on the obligation to up hold khilafah Islamiyah supported by fikrah (idea) as a means for change. This group has issued some controversial ijtihads on politics which lead to pros and consin the debate and discourse on democracy in Indonesia. Contrary to one of the principle, where the occasion of the revelation of verses is only very important background to understand texts, they reject history as means of the religious interpretation. Their method of exegesis builds only on textual understanding. The verse cannot be interpreted outof the text. There is no critique on previous understandings. They interpret the text and disregard previous interpretation. This paper simply affirms that new Islamic spirituality in Indonesia has many influences to the union of Indonesia.
