This research aimed at investigating the effect of cooperative learning model jigsaw technique and academic self-concept toward students' learning achievement of social subject. It was conducted at SMP Negeri 4 Mendoyo, Kabupaten Jembrana. This research involved 72 students as the sample of the study taken randomly. The data of learning achievement was gathered through test of learning achievement in the form of multiple choice consisted of 40 items with validity index from r=0,20 to r=0,73 and reliability index of Kuder Richadson 20 (KR- 20)= 0,92. Data of self-concept was collected through administering questionnaires of self-concept contained 35 items with validity index from r=0,2` to r=0,61 and reliability index of Alpha Cronbach= 0,85. Then, the collected data was analyzed descriptively through making use of two-way ANOVAand Tukey Test. It used program SPSS 11.0 for windows in testing the research hypotheses. The results of this research are as follows: (1) there is a significant difference of Social learning achievement between students taught through cooperative learning model jigsaw technique and those taught through conventional model. (2) There is an interaction between cooperative learning model jigsaw technique and academic self-concept toward Social learning achievement. (3) Social learning achievement of students who have high self-concept, followed instruction of cooperative learning model jigsaw technique is better than those who followed conventional model instruction. (4) Social learning achievement of students who have low self-concept, followed instruction of conventional model instruction is better than those who followed cooperative learning model jigsaw technique.
