Abstract

The aims of this study was to analyze the differences between: (1) critical thinking skill and conceptual understanding between the group of students who studied through inquiry learning strategies with the group of students who studied through direct instructional strategies; (2) critical thinking skill between the group of students who studied through inquiry learning strategies with the group of students who studied through direct instructional strategies; (3) conceptual understanding between the group of students who studied through inquiry learning strategies with the group of students who studied through direct instructional strategies. This study was an quasy-experimental using the pre-test post-test nonequivalent control group design. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and one way MANOVA.The result of study was stated: (1) there were the differences critical thinking skill and conceptual understanding between the group of students who studied through inquiry learning strategies with the group of students who studied through direct instructional strategies (F=68.151; p<0.05); (2) there were the differences critical thinking skill between the group of students who studied through inquiry learning strategies with the group of students who studied through direct instructional strategies (Farithmetic=85.601>Ftable=3.94; p<0.05); (3) there were the differences conceptual understanding between the group of students who studied through inquiry learning strategies with the group of students who studied through direct instructional strategies (Farithmetic=88.474>Ftable=3.94; p<0.05).
