Teachers and students have numerous difficulties to achieve the objectives in genetics lesson. The difficulty in learning genetics is because most of genetic objects are abstract and there is no good enough instructional media that support learning process. This research and development was conducted to develop genetics instructional media called genetic box. The development model used in this research and development is Four-D model that developed by Thiagarajan et al (1974). Based on the validation result from material expert and educational practitioner genetic box get 86, 25% score, instructional aspect is 83%, and the score from small group developmental testing is 88.79%. Based on pre-test and post-test result, genetic box can increase learning result as much as 83.61%. The final product of genetic box have several advantages: (a) It has attractive design that can make student more motivated to learn; (b) It can explain abstract objects and phenomena in genetics; (c) It is easy to be used and assembled, so that the student can enjoy using this genetic box media; and (e) It doesn't need modern facilities or electronic equipments such as computer or laptop, and LCD projector, so it is suitable to be utilized in schools located in remote place. The conclusions about genetic box are: genetic box was suitable to be produced and to be disseminated or socialized through all schools in Indonesia and utilized in genetics lesson.
