A study was done in a district Health Centre in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta to investigate the type and cause of injury and some characteristics of the persons involved. Data were obtained from a special form used for every new injury patient. Within 9 months 161 cases were recorded with a M/F ratio of 2:1. Injuries occured more frequently among children and young adults (0—29 years). The main causes of injury were traffic accidents, falls, sharp objects and burns. Scalds were frequent among children age 0-4 years. In general the injuries were not severe, although medical assisstance were still needed. Recommendations : The development of injury prevention programs applicable to local conditions, an in depth study within the same area as well as in other areas, and improving the capability of paramedical personnel in injury management.
