Abstract

Students ability of mathematical reasoning and mathematical communication is still low due to many factors, one of which is the limitation of learning model applied by the teacher.Due to that problem, this experimental study was aimed at investigating the influence of Cooperative Learning Model with Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) on students mathematical reasoning and communication abilities. The experimental design was post-test only control group. The population wasstudents of SMK Manonjaya, Tasikmalaya; while randomly selected sample was two classes.one class was assigned as experimental group and the other as control group. Data was collected through essay test for mathematical reasoning and communication abilities, as well as observation on learning activities.T-test, two ways Anova, and Pearson correlation were applied to analyze the data. The results showed that: (1) mathematical reasoning ability of students treated through STAD cooperative learning model was better than thosetreated throughdirect learning; (2)by the level of initial ability, mathematical reasoning abilities of students, treated through STAD cooperative learning model was better than thosetreated through direct learning; (3) ability of student's mathematical communications, treated through STAD cooperative learning was better than those treated through direct learning; (4) by the level of initial ability, mathematical communication skills of students, treated through STAD cooperative learning was better than those,treated through direct learning; and (5) there was correlation between student's mathematical reasoning ability and student's mathematical communication ability.
