Community participation is very important to decide the success and continuity of health development. One of the potential local community resources which can improve community participation is community organization. This study aimed to determine the perception of community organization regarding community participation concept and efforts to accelerate the decrease of maternal and infant mortality rates (MMR and IMR). It was an explorative research using qualitative and quantitative data, located at 4 (four) provinces: Central Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Central and East Java. In each province, two districts were selected with criteria of high MMR, IMR, and also low MMR and IMR respectively. Results showed that perception of community organization regarding community participation concept were the effort to move society to be caring and involved in handling problem of health. To accelerate the decrease of MMR and IMR, participation of community organization manifested with caring, involvement, cooperation, and partnership with governmental institutions. Partnership with governmental institutions only limited on providing socialization and education. In future, the perception of community participation concept requires to be formulated by more concrete by assessing self supporting society value for healthy life.
