Abstract

Concrete affected by sea water is required using Type V cement; the problem is that cement is not available in building materials stores in Malang. There are three outstanding cements with different types: Type I; “Equivalent” Type I; and Type II.This study aims to determine the reaction of concrete compressive strength using various types of cement brands circulating in Malang against the influence of sea water, and to know the strongest cement to the influence of sea water. Samples using standard size concrete cylinders, fc ‘= 17 MPa; each treatment using five specimens; treatment by immersing the test specimen in seawater for 7; 14; and 28 days. Testing compressive strength using Universal Testing Machine capacity of 100 tons.Test results: (1) for 7 days soaked in seawater, concrete compressive strength increases rapidly, but when soaked for longer its strength tends to decrease; (2) for 28 days soaked concrete seawater using cement Type I compressive strength is relatively high.
