The evolving of leadership studies can be stated quite rapidly with the emergence of new theories such as effective leadership and servant leadership. The emergence of this servant leadership was a response to the poor economic conditions in the United States that resulted in mass layoffs. The economic difficulties have put employees in a state of fear that degrades the level of employee productivity. This condition further exacerbates the relationship between corporate leaders and employees. Corporate leaders do not have sufficient time to communicate with employees. On the basis of such conditions Greenleaf introduces a model of servant leadership in the workplace. The leadership model prioritizes service to other parties, either to employees (members) of the company, customers, or to the surrounding community. The practice of servant leadership is characterized by an increasing willingness to serve others with a comprehensive approach to work, community, and decision-making processes involving all parties. Although it is acknowledged that the development of servant leadership is a step forward and quite valuable, yet academically insufficient support of empirical studies, so that in the future empirical research in servant leadership is essential.   Keywords: leadership studies, servant leader, Greenleaf's leadership model, effective leadership
