In actual education, a child acquires knowledge in school in order to be able to apply it in their lives and can solve problems faced from different perspectives. Students' ability to connect is called mathematical connection ability. Therefore an innovation in education is needed to develop this mathematical connection capability. One of the innovations that can be used as an alternative to developing the ability of mathematical connection is using REACT strategy (Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, Transferring). This research was conducted to find out the difference of mathematical connection ability of students using REACT strategy using conventional learning and to know whether the improvement of knowledge of mathematical connection ability of students using REACT strategy is better than using conventional learning or not. REACT strategy is one of the strategies that can be used in using a contextual model which in its learning not only focuses on the relation with real life experience but also prioritizes on the interconnection between concepts outside of the discipline. This research uses quasi-experiment with Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design which is implemented in 5th grade elementary school students as much as 2 classes in Rancaekek Sub-district. Instruments used are a test and nontest instrument, test instrument in the form of essay ability problem of mathematical connection and non-test instrument in the form of observation sheet of teacher and student. Data obtained then analyzed with statistic test to verify the hyphotesis. The results of this study conclude that (1) there are differences in students' mathematical connection ability using REACT and conventional strategies; the average value of students who received learning REACT of 78.5 and conventional learning amounted to 52.59; (2) improvement of mathematical connection ability of students using REACT strategy is in medium range (N-Gain = 0,66), better than using conventional learning learning which is in medium range (N-Gain = 0,34)
