Problem Based Learning Model to Increase Mathematic Critical Thinking Skills of V Grade Primary Student

Abstract

This research is motivated by the mathematic critical thinking skills of students still to be increase. This was caused by the mathematics learning still teacher centered, so students are less active in building knowledge and their mathematic critical thinking skills. The purpose of this study was to finding out the increase mathematical critical thinking skills and the different increase mathematical critical thinking skills of students between who received problem based learning model and conventional learning. Problem based learning is a learning model  can create active learning, teacher toward a real problem to students, so the students must develope their mathematic critical thinking skills. The method in this study used quasi experimental the nonequivalent control group design. The sample are 30 students of class VA SDN Binongjati as an experimental group and 30 students of class VA SDN Babakanjati as a control group. Instrument used mathematical critical thinking skills test. Result quantitative data analysis from test the normalized gain showed there are an increase mathematical critical thinking skills in experimental group is 0,48 with medium criteria, and in control group is 0,19 with low criteria. It strengthened by the conclusion based of hypothesis test: 1)There is an increase mathematical critical thinking skills of students by using problem based learning model; 2)There is an increase different mathematical critical thinking skills between students by using problem based learning model and students by using conventional learning. Those the problem based learning can be use as an alternative larning to increase students' mathematical critical thinking skills
