The Research was conducted to find out the influence of the application of the model problem posing semi structured type to the mathematical communication ability of fourth grade students of elementary school. This research is motivated by the low ability of students' mathematical communication. This happens because students aren't directly involved during the learning process so that students are difficult in developing communication ability. The model problem posing semi structured type is one of the ideal learning models to develop students' mathematical communication ability. This research used experimental methods with quasi experimental design in the form of the nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Population in this research is all fourth graders of elementary school in Babakan Sub district year 2016/2017. The sample of the research in the fourth grade students of SD Negeri 1 Karangwangun and fourth grade students of SD Negeri 1 Gembongan Babakan Sub district of Cirebon Regency. Research instrument used is a test of mathematical communication ability in the form of essay and observation sheet. Based on test result of difference of mean of one sample at normalized gain data of experiment class and control class, indicate that there is improvement of student's mathematical communication ability after getting learning using model problem posing semi structured type and conventional model. Besides, it is seen from the result of the difference test of mean of two samples on the normalized gain data proves that there is a difference in the increase of mathematical communication ability between the students who get the learning using model problem posing semi structured type with the students who get the learning using conventional model. This is seen from the average gain of the normalized experimental class of 0,63 higher than the control class with a normalized gain of 0,51. So, it can be concluded that the model problem posing semi structured type can be one alternative in improving students' mathematical communication ability
