This research is stimulated by the findings that the low mathematical connections skills of students'. It can be seen from many students that it is easier to work on math problems in the form of direct stuffing rather than working on the story. Mathematical learning is not yet able to facilitate students' mathematical connection skills. Therefore, teachers should be able to choose an approach that can facilitate students' mathematical connection skills ability one of them is thematic approach based on talking stick. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of thematic approach based on talking stick, that is difference of improvement of mathematical connection skills of students who get learning with thematic approach based on Talking Stick better than elementary students who get conventional learning. This research is quantitative research, with quasi experiment research method. The sample of this research is the students of class V SDN Girimekar 02 and the students of grade V SDN Girimekar 03. The results showed that there are differences in mathematical connection ability between students who received learning with thematic approach based on Talking Stick with elementary students who obtained conventional learning, Mathematical connections of students who gain learning with thematic approach based on Talking Stick is better than elementary students who obtain conventional learning. The results are based on the results of pretest and posttest data analysis in the experimental class and control class. The mathematical connection skills of experiment class students is higher because learning with thematic approach based on talking stick provides an opportunity for students to develop mathematical connection skills through learning activities that present learning materials more real in accordance with problems often encountered by students in their environment. Thus, thematic approach based on Talking Stick can be used as an alternative learning to improve mathematical connection skills of elementary school students.
