This research is motivated by the problem of reading comprehension ability at V grade in Cijati Elementary School 01 Cileunyi District, Bandung Regency. Based on preliminary studies in the field, found many problems in the implementation of learning process Indonesian language, especially in reading comprehension, some students are still not able to understand the contents of a text of reading material. Especially in summarizing or retelling from a text of the content of the reading. This problem appears is because of the implementation of the students toward reading comprehension especially to understanding a text of reading material is still weak and the understanding learning process is still using less innovative learning methods. The researchers using the GIST method through children's story text media as one of the solutions in learning reading comprehension in the classroom. The students will learn from the beginning of learning process until product creation summarizes from child story text as final evaluation result. This study aims to describe the learning process and improve students' reading comprehension by using the GIST method. The research method used is Classroom Action Research method using Kammis and MC Taggart research model design. This study was conducted in three cycles. Instruments used in the form of observation sheets, field notes, interview sheets, assessment guides and documentation. The data analysis done by the qualitative , the quantitative and triangulation approach. The learning of reading comprehension with GIST method through children story text media can improve reading comprehension ability. This can be seen from the average value reading comprehension ability of the students outcome are cycle I 40.77, cycle II of 68.48 and cycle III of 84.88.
