Kemampuan Membaca Pemahaman Siswa Kelas XII SMA di Surabaya

Abstract

The research was motivated by the results UNAS Indonesian in 2010/2011 had a significantdownturn, it is caused by learning to read in high school Surabaya has not been implemented optimally.The decline results Indonesian UNAS graduation pins with the smallest value experienced by the studentsin 2010/2011 compared with the results of other subjects UNAS. In relation with those ideas, this researchis focused on the State and Private High School in Surabaya with the total amount is eight schools. One ofthe focus of the subject of the study is the students of XII Class of IPA(Science Program) and IPS (SocialProgram).Based on the above explanation, the problems are focused on the Senior High School students ofXII Class in Surabaya in the year 2012/2013 with two important research problems to find out how high isthe reading comprehension ability to read fast and comprehend the text. Each of the research problems aredivided into two sub-questions; they are: 1) Reading comprehension ability of state high school and privatehigh school (in city, suburb, favorite, and non-favorite), 2)Text comprehending ability of state high schooland private high school (in city, suburb, favorite, and non-favorite).The subject of this research is the XII class of IPA and IPS of State high school and private highschool. Then, this research uses analytical descriptive method, so it can be categorized as quantitativedescriptive research. The data research collection technique is using documentation technique to select thedata. Data collection procedure was taken directly. Data collection instruments are three kinds of readingJurnal Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia Volume 01 Nomor 01 Tahun 2012comprehension tests, they are scientific, general, and art. Those three kinds of tests are in the objective testwith five choices. Data analysis technique uses descriptive statistics. Data analysis procedure is to find outhow fast to read (KM), to understand the content (PI), and to comprehend the text (KMP).From the result, it can be conclude that the level of reading comprehension ability is 51% forcomprehending the content of the text with the speed 234,83 kpm. The level of text comprehension 51% isknown that for the students’ text comprehension is 117,85 Kpm. The ability on the reading comprehension117,85 is the time needed to comprehend the content of the text. From this ppoint, reading comprehensionability level of XII class in Surabaya raise on 117,85 Kpm and the text comprehension is 51%, which thatability is a good criteria, because less that 70% of comprehension is the minimum graduation for HighSchool is 250 Kpm.
