This research aimed to identify wetland rice field that meets the criteria of a sustainable farming areas for food system using geographic information system (GIS) applications in the southern of Sigi District. This research was located at 3 sub districts of southern of Sigi District i.e. Sub District of Kulawi, south Kulawi and Pipikoro, Central Sulawesi Province and started in September until December 2014. This research used a survey method beginning with the preparation of the assessment criteria, followed by the collection of primary data through field observations and ground check. While the secondary data included spatial and socio-economic information. Data processing involved data verification, redelineation, and preparation of data basis system. Data analysis was done by overlaying different maps using geographic information system. The results showed that the distribution of wetland rice field categorized as most priority class was located in some villages in Kulawi and South Kulawi Sub Districts covering an area of 1,295.56 ha. The area belong to priority class was located in some villages in Pipikoro, Kulawi and south Kulawi Sub Districts with a total area of 613.06 ha whereas that belong to none priority class was located in Pipikoro Sub District with an area of 3,3 ha.
