Abstract

The background of this research is using social studies which frequently present verbally and not using media learning. it causes the student is not utmost attention to their teacher explanation so, the outcome of social studies is un-vaunted ( low )The purpose of this research to examine teacher activity, student activity level and student learning outcomes on social studies before and after using media puzzle in direct learning and kinds of hindrance during learning. This research uses design research in action class by using qualitative method. The subject in this research is the Student class VA SDN Rangkah I Tambaksari Surabaya which total of 30 students. The method of data collection by using the observation, test and angket method. The outcome of data collection is analyzed by using technique of qualitative descriptive analyses. On learning activity, teacher activity experienced improving score on average of 75 % in circle I. 81,9 in circle II and 90,29 in circle III. On student activity experienced improving score which average of 66,07 % in circle I, 76,78 % in circle II and 87, 5 % in circle III. On learning outcome also experienced improving which average of score 40 % on initial observation 46% in circle, 66,67 % in circle II and 86,67 % in circle III, from above result, could be concluded that using media puzzle in direct learning in social studies is able to improve the student learning outcome for student class VA SDN Rangkah I Tambaksari Surabaya
