In the Natural Sciences learning about celestial bodies is the ability of understanding the most basic concepts. Because of the ability of understanding the concept of celestial bodies controlled by the students was the basis for work on the problems in the material science of celestial objects. Learning approach planned by the teacher that the contextual approach, which can attract student interest, because it is a new thing for students, more active and enthusiastic students in the learning process.The purpose of this study was to describe the activities of teachers and students in pendekatan kontekstual to improve the ability to determine the class of celestial bodies in children in elementary school I Gununganyar Putra Indonesia Surabaya, described the students' grade I Gununganyar SD Putra Indonesia Surabaya.The method used is quantitative deskripsif using action research design, conducted through four phases: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research was carried out by two cycles, and each cycle by two meetings. Data were obtained from the observation of the activities of teachers and students, tests and documentation.The results showed an increase from cycle I to cycle II, namely: teacher activity by 61% to 92.5%. Increased activity of students in the first cycle is 68.5% to 86%. Improved student learning outcomes in the first cycle of 66% to 88%. In grade school I Gununganyar Putra Indonesia Surabaya.
