Abstract

In learning Indonesian, students are required to be able to master one of the productive language skills such as writing.The problem that is commonly faced in the teaching and learning process is the students low interest in mastering the material given by the teacher. It is coused by the lack of media that is used to help the students mastering the material. Series picture is one of the media that can be used to give an ease to the students to improve their ability in writing a composition. Writing in this research means writing story. It is one of the materials taught in 5th grade, elementary school. The purpose of the research is to find out the activity of the students and the teacher in learning in writing stories by using image series as the media and the students achievement in writing a story by using image series. From two period of research, here is the result that is got: for the teacher's activity in the first period the first meeting is 77,78% and the second meeting is 81,48% from the nine aspects observed. For the students activity, in the first period is 66,66% and the second is 76,66% while in the second period the first meeting for the teacher activity is 81,48% and the second meeting is 92,59% from the nine aspects observed. For the students activity in the second period first meeting is 76,66% and the second meeting is 88,89%. From the result above, it can be concluded thet the 5th grade students of Yohannes Gabriel Elementary SchoolSurabaya can write a story well through image series. It is proved by the improvement of the teachers' and students' activity during the teaching and learning process for each period..
