Komunikasi Non Verbal Bangunan Kolonial di Perkebunan Teh Jawa Barat

Abstract

This research focused on nonverbal communication in the life of native people in tea plantation under colonial ideology. The aim of this research is to explain the linkage between identity and physical environment as the assumption of nonverbal communication theory.Research argued physical environment has effect on individual identity who lived in that area for generations. Information and data obtained from field observation, in-depth interview, photo documentation, Dutch colonialism literature and the history of Dutch colonialism in Indonesia.As an instrumental case study, researcher used comparative data analysis technic, between tea plantation area in Malabar and Subang. Data validation used source triangulation with source from native people who live in tea plantation for generations. Most of them are third generations of tea plantation worker.Result showed there are linkage between physical environment appearance towards workers life in tea plantation especially in relation to postcolonial theory and identity.
