Indonesia is rich of genetic resources and species diversity of Durio spp. Based on examination of 270 number of specimens herbarium collection in Herbarium Bogoriense, there are 20 species of Durio (Durio spp.) encountered in Indonesia. Eighteen of 20 species of Durio occur in Kalimantan, 7 species in Sumatera and 1 species in Java, Bali, Sulawesi, and Maluku respectively. Fourteen of 18 of species Durio in Kalimantan are recorded as endemic species. Nine species are reported as edible fruits, e.i. Durio dulcis (lahong), D. exelcus (apun), D. grandiflorus (durian munyit), D. graveolens (tuwala), D. kutejensis (lai), D. oxleyanus (kerantungan), D. lowianus (teruntung), D. testudinarum (durian sekura), and D. zibethinus (durian). The results of study indicated that D. acutifolius, D. dulcis, D. kutejensis, D. lowianus, D. oxleyanus, D. testudinarum, and D. zibethinus are as the indigenous species of Durio (Durio spp.) having development potential in Indonesia.
