Abstract

Fishermen identified close to poverty, when fishing close to access to resources, namely the capture fisheries. Allegedly there are obstacles faced, so fishermen are not able to obtain optimum benefit from the resources that are nearby. The purpose of this study to analyze: (1) the social aspect of the fishermen in the village of Serangan, South Denpasar District, (2) the economic aspects of the fishermen in the village of Serangan, South Denpasar District, (3) the participation of fishermen to the program of economic empowerment of coastal communities.The research location determined by purposive sampling. Under this method is set in the village of Serangan, South Denpasar District, Denpasar. Respondents were taken using a simple random sampling method, with the number of respondents 30 people fishing.Data analysis using descriptive methods and analysis of farm incomes. The study found the social performance of the fishermen in the Serangan village is low in terms of the latest education attained is the average elementary school (SD), that making the fishermen is quite difficult to find another activity outside his job as a fisherman. The economic performance of the fishermen's in the village of Serangan with an average income of fishermen of the fishing period is Rp.41.123. Â Â Â Â Â The participation of fishermen in the village of Serangan towards PEMP program is realized with the development potential of catching, breeding, and cultivation. Based on these results, it can be suggested the need for seriousness in the development of marine fisheries through economic and social support to their capital (investment) for the long-term fishing effort, cultivation, breeding and processing of fishery products. The Provincial Government is expected to find solutions so that fishermen do not lose money, and to alleviate poverty, especially for coastal communities.Â
