Abstract

This research represents the first phase of the plan is carried out within a period of 2 years, which seeks to formulate a model of biochar use in the management of the physical and chemical properties of rainfed land in an effort to increase the productivity of the land. This research is a survey research collaboration, laboratory and field experiment, with the purpose : 1 ) Creating a mapping rainfed areas in Jembrana and precipitation development from 2008-2012 ; 2 ) Analyze the nature of the chemical, physical and biological properties of soil and so macro and micro elements on corn in rainfed land ; 3 ) Designing of biochar application model for material rainfed land planted with corn after rice, and 4 ) Analyze the characteristics of rice husk biochar and biochar chicken manure. By mapping through satellite, the widest loation of rainfed located at Melaya District. Amount of rainfall in the district of Jembrana in 2012 as many as 1472 mm , the highest rainfall in November and December, amounting to 236.30 mm and 264 rain mm. This condition is much lower than in 2011 was 2669.24 mm. Obtained from the analysis of soil properties : a small soil moisture content , soil slightly acid pH, organic C and low total of N , high CEC and KB, while micro nutrient uptake in corn crops such as Mg, Fe, Na, Cu and Co are relatively high. Value analysis of rice husk biochar characteristics quantitatively and qualitatively higher than biochar. So the form of biochar application materials of chicken manure into rainfed land will be able to chicken manure mending the soil physical and chemical properties.Â
