This paper aims to contribute to the debate of biometrics and privacy concerns byexamining the existing legal and academic debates. Several controversial legal problems in thebiometric context will be discussed such as the following: the legal status of biometric data, thestorage of biometric data, compulsory and voluntary issues and the necessity of using biometrictechnology. The study will be based on relevant EU instruments, Norwegian, Swedish and US caselaw. Critical comments will be made on the various views about biometrics and data protection froma legal perspective.
