Obesity is excess body fat is usually deposited in the subcutaneous tissue (under the skin), causing excessive fat accumulation in the body. It often affects the occurrence of a significant reduction on one's health. One of the main strategies to prevent or treat obesity in children is by targeting a family environment. Families, especially parents have a major influence in the healthy development of children associated with the lifestyle of children. Baumrind (1991) in Ashwill (2014) states that there are three (3) types of parenting applied by parents in general, such as authoritarian, authoritative and permissive. Where both types are believed to be most effective are the type of authoritative parenting. Other techniques that are effective in preventing obesity in children include the implementation of Family Management Style Framework (FMSF) and assessment of the effectiveness of parenting parents and Triple P. So we can conclude that the condition of obesity in children can not be left just as it can lead to the emergence of various problems very detrimental to the quality of life of children such as growth disorders legs, low self esteem, sleep disorders, sleep apnea (stopped breathing momentarily) and other respiratory disease should receive appropriate intervention by involving parents in handling.
