Petra Christian University is a national private university in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. The university was founded in 1961 under the initiative of several founders of Petra Christian School Board, a Christian education foundation in Surabaya which was founded in 1951. The name "Petra" comes from the Greek word for "Rock Coral".
