Santo Thomas Catholic University North Sumatra was founded in 1984 on Jl. S. Parman 107, Medan. In the first decade, the growth and development of the UNIKA was so rapid that a wider new campus location was needed. In 1994, the new campus at Tanjung Sari Medan was inaugurated and all Teaching, Research and Community Service activities were centered and designed on the Tanjung Sari campus. In 2017, UNIKA again opened a new campus for the Master of Law Program at the Catholic Center, Jl. Mataram No. 21, Medan.
