Ushahidi is a non-profit tech company that specializes in developing free and open source software for information collection, visualization and interactive mapping. Ushahidi, which translates to “testimony” in Swahili, was developed to map reports of violence in Kenya after the post-election violence in 2008. Since then, thousands have used Ushahidi's crowdsourcing tools to raise their voice.
The Ushahidi Platform allows anyone to gather distributed data via SMS, email or web and visualize it on a map or timeline. Their goal is to create the simplest way of aggregating information from the public for use in crisis response.
